Sure, the season officially began with games in Japan last week, but let’s face it; those games came and went with very little fanfare. All eyes will be on Marlins Park this Wednesday night for the true start to the season.
Josh Johnson will get the ball for Miami and will throw the first pitch ever at the new stadium. He’ll be making his third Opening Day start. Shoulder problems led to a shortened 2011 campaign in which he went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in 60.1 innings. He’ll rely on new teammates like Jose Reyes and Heath Bell to back him up.
He’ll be opposed by Kyle Lohse, who replaces the injured Chris Carpenter as the Opening Day arm. Lohse was 14-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 188.1 innings.
These two teams have a lot to play for this season, as St. Louis
has 25/1 odds to win the World Series. Miami’s MLB futures are set at 22/1. Bet on MLB now.
