In looking at the NBA line moves it becomes rather difficult as playoff teams will be selectively resting players, which will cause wild swings on games. We did find one important conflict, plus three more in baseball for Monday. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
NBA – (517) MEMPHIS at (518) PHOENIX 10:05 E SS, FSAZ
The Suns are up against the wall when it comes to making the postseason, but with a victory in the desert, they can end up playing 82 meaningful regular season games this season. What has attracted the eye of those betting basketball is the total in this Western Conference showdown and it has plummeted like the Philadelphia 76ers in the second half of the season from 198 to 194. Hoops players are convinced the Grizzlies will dictate tempo, having held the Suns nearly 12 points (11.8) below their scoring average of 105.4 per game. Also, Memphis is 10-2 UNDER in road games having won four of five. SWM Take – Play Under
MLB – (901) ATLANTA at (902) PHILADELPHIA 7:05 E ESPN
Having swept Washington, one might think Atlanta would be a hot choice to back, but not so according to a segment for baseball bettors. The Braves opened as -140 money line road favorite and have been dumped to -124. Atlanta’s Ervin Santana did his part with eight impressive shutout innings in his first start, nevertheless, he’ll face a Philadelphia squad that just took three from Miami and Santana will have to deal with Chase Utley, who is batting a scalding .500 after two weeks. The Bravos are a perfect 6-0 away after three straight NL East triumphs. SWM Take – Atlanta wins
MLB – (903) WASHINGTON at (978) MIAMI 7:10 E MASN2, FSFL
After a 5-2 homestand to start the season, there was increased enthusiasm among Marlins fans. A 0-6 road trip turned those smiles into frowns as they return to South Florida. Awaiting them is an opponent who is none too pleased themselves in Washington who was also swept over the weekend. At least the Nationals can turn to Jordan Zimmerman, who was roughed by Miami is his last start, but is known as a very good starting pitcher and they have been elevated from -125 to -140. In the Nats favor, they are 6-0 this season facing teams not wearing a Bravos uniform. SWM Take – Washington wins
MLB – (915) SEATTLE at (916) TEXAS 8:05 E ROOT-NW, FSSW
Pitcher Colby Lewis rejoins the Rangers rotation after 21 months and two operations. Baseball bettors might think this is a nice story, however, their betting patterns suggest something else, dropping Texas from -150 to -124. Of concern is the Rangers offense, which has scored three or less runs in seven contests and they have not seen Seattle’s Cuban rookie Roenis Elias (0-1, 2.70 ERA) before. The Mariners are having offensive issues of their own having hung 17 straight zeroes on the scoreboard. While Texas was hardly dominating in winning the series against Houston the past three days, they are 55-24 since last year at home taking on AL West competitors. SWM Take – Texas wins
