The bats are heating up again for the Pirates and they’ve now won 4 straight to get right back in the playoff race. Edinson Volquez is dealing right now. He’s 3-0 with a stellar 2.02 ERA in his last 8 starts. He’s also put up equally strong numbers on the road. Volquez has pitched better against the Phillies than any other team in the NL other than Miami. Things are going right for the Bucs and the time to bet them is now while they’re making their playoff push.

The Phillies are a bunch of veterans playing for exercise right now. They’ve lost 2 in a row and just don’t have the fight in them that we see out of other ball clubs. The team is simply going through the motions, ready for the season to be over. It’s also a good time for Philly to evaluate some prospects for the future. That means the lineup will be full of inexperience and talent that is not yet developed.

Rookie David Buchanan hasn’t been anything special for the Phillies. The youngster has above average potential but doesn’t have the stuff at this point in time to dominate the Pirates, especially with the way they’re currently hitting. Huge pitching mismatch here along with a motivated and more talented team. Lay the chalk and take the Pirates.
