It is on to Tuesday and those following the betting odds have been busy at work adjusting the sportsbooks opening numbers. We have five games to consider in a variety of sports along with free picks. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (371-304 L122D)

NBA – (503) BOSTON at (504) NEW YORK  7:35 ET  CSN-NE, MSG

The Knicks have won as many games in the last two weeks (5) as they had all season up to that point and are on a 6-1 ATS roll. Yet not everyone making sports picks is thinking New York will keep playing well, even at home against Boston, who has lost three in a row and is 5-12 (10-7 ATS) in 2015. The starting NBA odds had the Celtics at +1, but by early afternoon Eastern Time, the C’s were at -1. Boston is 14-8 ATS on the road this season and is 7-0 ATS away after failing to cover two of their last three against the spread this season. SWM Take Slight lean New York

NBA – (509) GOLDEN STATE at (510) SACRAMENTO  10:05 ET CSN-BA, CSN-CA

Golden State is the top-scoring team in the NBA at 110.8 points and Sacramento ranks 27th in scoring defense, is this enough to push the total from 216 to 217.5? The wagering public thinks so, yet the real issue is on the other side of the floor, where the Warriors surrender 99.6 PPG while the Kings average 102.3 PPG. Golden State has scored 126 and 128 points in the two previous meetings this year, thus they are likely do their part even if they tally 10 fewer points. Know this, when the total is 210 or higher and road team is off a home win and has won 75 percent or more of the games on the season, and are playing a team with a losing record, they are 26-4 OVER, with the average total score 229.5. SWM Take Play Over

CBB – (521) NORTHWESTERN at (522) NEBRASKA  7:30 ET  BTN

Once again TV commentators are heaping praise on Northwestern for being competitive, but being close only counts in horseshoes and the Wildcats are 1-7 (5-3 ATS) in the Big Ten this season. However, college basketball handicappers and other aware Northwestern is 7-1 ATS on the road, which is being ignored by sports bettors who have pumped up Nebraska from -4.5 to -6. The Cornhuskers have been known as a good home team, yet this year they are above average 9-3, but just 4-5 ATS. With the ‘Cats 6-0 ATS as road underdogs, might be worth a peek. SWM Take Northwestern covers

CBB – (541) VIRGINIA TECH at (542) SYRACUSE  9:00 ET  ESPNU

This is not the kind of Syracuse team we are used to seeing at 14-7 and they struggle to score, especially at 18 feet and out. Virginia Tech also lacks the ability to fray the nylon and they have been beefed up from +10 to +11.5. Despite the Hokies 1-7 ACC record, they are 6-2 ATS in conference action and make eight 3’s a game which makes them a cover possibility. If the Hokies are to cover, they must drain the long ball and do a better job on the glass since they are being out-rebounded by -10 on the road compared the Orange at +7 in the Carrier Dome. SWM Take Lean Syracuse

NHL – (17) COLORADO at (18) DALLAS  8:35 ET     ALT, FS-SW

Dallas and Colorado are tied for 10th in the West and understand picking up victories is tantamount over the next two months to secure a playoff spot. The Stars have been more consistent in winning four of their last six compared to the Avalanche who are 2-3 in their last five and losers of five of six on the road. Those putting together NHL picks are on the Dallas bandwagon and sent the Stars shooting from -145 to -165 on the money line. Both teams have weaknesses but the Avs are 1-10 in road games against good passing teams averaging five or more assists per game. SWM Take Dallas wins
