A Look At Seattle

The Seattle Mariners grabbed a huge win in game three of this series as they won by a score of 8-7. They have now taken two of the first three games of this series to move to within 5.5 games of a wild card slot in the AL. Seattle did have a big 8-3 lead on Saturday, but the A’s made a game of it by scoring four times in the bottom of the 7th. The Mariners held on from there and Edwin Diaz picked up his 51st save of the year. That leads the league and by a wide margin as Wade Davis is 2nd with 37. Getting the win was James Paxton, who allowed three ERs on two hits and four walks while striking out 10 in 5.0 innings. He is now 11-5 with a 3.74 ERA on the year.

Leading their offensive attack was Jean Segura, who had three hits and drove in two runs. Ben Gamel also had a nice game with two hits and a couple of RBIs. Despite the win, the Mariners are just 4-6 in their last 10 games and they will look to turn that around. They have gone 38-32 on the road this year, so they have a shot at pulling this one off. On the other hand, they do have Felix Hernandez on the mound and he has not been very good at all this year. They have to hoop that their offense really shows up in this one.

A Look At Oakland

The A’s have not been playing great ball of late. Still, thanks to the struggles of the Astros, they are just two games out of first place in the American League West. They also currently have the 2nd wildcard slot and lead the Mariners by 5.5 games for that spot. The A’s really need to win this game. They do have an edge on the mound as King Felix has really struggled this year, while Edwin Jackson has pitched well. We do note that he has a 5.14 ERA in his last three starts, so this will not be a slam dunk for the A’s. He is 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA in his career against the Mariners. The pressure will be on him in this one.

The A’s nearly came back from an 8-3 deficit in game three as they scored four in the bottom of the 7th to tighten up the game. They just couldn’t get the tying run. Leading their attack in the game was Mike Cahana, who drove in three runs, while Marcus Semien had two RBIs. Cahana had his 15th homer of the year in the game while Khris Davis had his 40th. Liam Hendriks took the loss after allowed two ERs on two hits and a walk in just 1.2 innings of work. He is now 0-1 with a 7.82 ERA on the year. The A’s have gone a solid 40-28 here at home.
