A Look At The Mets
The Mets have very little to play for, but they keep fighting. They come in having won three of their last four games after taking the final two games in their series with the Giants. They played a bit of spoiler in that series and now have a chance to do so again. The Dodgers are fighting for a playoff spot and the Mets can hinder their chances a bit. The Mets would also like to get Jacob deGrom a Cy Young award and that could give them some extra motivation in this game. They have given him just 3.56 rpg of support and that is why he is 8-8 on the year, despite his league-leading 1.68 ERA. It may be hard for him to win the Cy Young with just a .500 record.
The Mets topped the Giants on Sunday by a score of 4-1. Noah Syndergaard had a strong outing as he went the distance and allowed just one ER on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 11 in the process. He is now 10-3 with a 3.33 ERA on the year. They could have used him for the whole year. Michael Conforto led the attack with his 20th homer on the year, which was a two-run blast. Jeff McNeil also had a nice game with two hits and two RBIs. The Mets have gone 33-35 on the road and they have averaged 5.09 rpg and have allowed 5.07 rpg in those games.
A Look At The Dodgers
It has been an uphill climb for the Dodgers, but they have finally taken over the top spot in the National League West. They did so by taking a 3-2 decision over the Diamondbacks on Sunday. The Dodgers lost game one of that series, but the won the final three and by identical 3-2 scores. It was a tight series, but the Dodgers came out on top. Their lead in the division is a half a game over the Rockies. The Dodgers have now won eight of their last nine games and they have allowed just 2.44 rpg over that stretch. The offense has struggled of late as they have failed to score more than three runs in each of their last five games. That may not change in this one against Jacob deGrom.
In their win on Sunday, Walker Buehler had another fine outing. He got a no-decision in the game after allowing just one ER on two hits and three walks while striking out nine in 6.1 innings of work. Kenley Jansen grabbed the win and is now 1-5 with a 2.93 ERA on the year. The game was tied 1-1 heading to the ninth when the D-Backs took a 2-1 lead. The Dodgers then won it in the bottom of the 9th on a two-run double by Matt Kemp. The Dodgers had just three hits in the game and grabbing one of those was Max Muncy, who launched his 31st homer of the year. LA has gone 38-34 at home and they have averaged 4.25 rpg and have allowed 3.73 rpg in those games.
