Pitching Matchup

Toeing the rubber for the Diamondbacks will be Zack Godley and he has gone 14-8 with a 4.51 ERA in 29 games (28 starts) on the year, including 8-4 with a 5.05 ERA in 15 starts on the road. In his career, he has gone 17-12 with a 4.15 ERA in 48 games (34 starts) on the road and 4-5 with a 4.66 ERA in 22 games (nine starts) during Sept/ Oct. Godley has gone 4-0 with a 3.15 ERA in seven games (five starts) against the Rockies in his career, including 3-0 with a 3.80 ERA in five games (three starts) here at Coors.

The Rockies will trot out 11-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 28 starts on the year, including 4-6 with a 5.50 ERA in 14 starts here at home. In his career, he has gone 11-9 with a 4.83 ERA in 30 games (29 starts) here at Coors and 2-3 with a 4.97 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) during Sept/ Oct. Marquez has gone 1-4 with a 4.72 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) against the D-Backs in his career.

A Look At The Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks are starting to slide a little. They come in off a tough 9-5 home loss to the braves and have now lost seven of their last nine games. That puts them at 2.5 games out of first in the National League West. They are still very much in the thick of things, but they must get their ship righted soon or it will be all over. By soon, I mean this series. This is their chance to either stay in the race or fall out of it. The pitching really struggled in the series with the Braves as they allowed 24 runs in the four games, after allowing just 22 total runs in their previous 10 games. They have to hope that their pitching holds up in this series.

It may not be that easy in game one as Zack Godley has struggled on the road this year. Still, he has good numbers against the Rockies and Colorado’s offense hasn’t been as good as the past few years. The D-Backs had a 4-3 lead heading to the 9th against the Braves on Sunday, but Atlanta scored six in the top of the 9th and that sealed the deal. Brad Boxberger allowed three ERs on three hits in a third of an inning to take the loss. He is now 2-7 with a 4.41 ERA on the year and it was his 7th blown save. Arizona needs to get back on track in this one.

A Look At The Rockies

The Rockies enter this game off a tough series against the Dodgers. They lost two of the three games played and now their lead in the National League Central is down to just a half game lead over those Dodgers. The Rockies have still gone 6-2 over their last eight games, but they go from hosting the Dodgers to hosting the Diamondbacks, who are right on their tail as well. Can they get back on track in this one? They have a shot as Godley has struggled on the road this year, but we also note that Marquez has been far better on the road than at home this year. This will be an interesting game.

The Rockies lost on Sunday by a score of 9-6 and Tyler Anderson took the loss in the game, he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks in just 2.2 innings of work. He is now 6-8 with a 4.89 ERA on the year. Leading their attack on offense was Charlie Blackmon, who had three hits, scored three runs and drove in two. Two of his hits were solo homers and he now has 26 on the year. Nolan Arenado went deep as well and he now has 32. The Rockies have gone 38-32 here at home and they have averaged 5.07 rpg and have allowed 5.20 rpg in those games.
