Atlanta Braves vs San Francisco Giants MLB Odds, Betting Preview 9/11/18

The National League East meets the National League West this evening as the Atlanta Braves duke it out with the San Francisco Giants. This is game two of a three-game series and will take place at AT&T Park with a start time of 10:15 pm ET. The Braves took game one of this series by a score of 4-1.

Pitching Matchup

Mike Foltynewicz will toe the slab for the braves and he has gone 10-9 with a 2.75 ERA in 27 starts on the year, including 6-6 with a 2.71 ERA in 13 starts on the road. In his career, he has gone 17-22 with a 4.56 ERA in 60 games (47 starts) on the road and 2-4 with a 4.32 ERA in 15 games (eight starts) during Sept/ Oct. Foltynewicz has gone 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA in six starts against the Giants, including 1-2 with a 3.93 ERA in three starts here at AT&T Park.  

The Giants will trot out Andrew Suarez in this game and he has gone 6-10 with a 4.33 ERA in 25 starts in this his first year in the league, including 4-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 12 starts here at home. He has faced the Braves once this year and allowed just one unearned run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six in 5.1 innings of work. He got the win in a 4-3 game.

A Look At The Braves

The Atlanta Braves have created a lot of breathing room of late as they now have a 5.0 game lead over the Phillies in the National League East. They come in off a 4-1 win over the Giants and have now won four of their first five games of this road trip. The offense has been very good of late as they have scored 6.0 rpg over their last six games. They will look to keep it going in this one against a San Francisco team that has been downright horrible of late. The Braves have gone 43-30 on the road this year and they have averaged 4.70 rpg and have allowed 3.84 rpg in those games.    

Atlanta allowed just one run in game one, but they have still allowed 5.38 rpg over their last eight games. They need to get their pitching back on track or they may not last long in the postseason. Sean Newcomb has a strong outing in game one as he allowed just one ER on three hits and no walks while striking out eight in 6.0 innings of work. He is now 12-8 with a 3.82 ERA on the year. AJ Minter grabbed his 14th save of the year. Dansby Swanson led the attack with two RBIs, while Kurt Suzuki had three hits and an RBI.   

A Look At The Giants

The San Francisco Giants have completely fallen apart of late as they will enter this game having lost their last nine games in a row. They had been in the race for a playoff spot for much of the year, but they have not shot at getting back into the race at this point as they are currently 12 games out of first in the West and 12.5 games out of a wildcard slot. The offense has been a big issue for them of late as they enter this game having averaged just 2.67 rpg over their last nine games. The pitching has also struggled as they have allowed 4.89 rpg over the same stretch. This is a bad team at the moment. The Giants have gone 39-31 here at home and they have averaged 4.26 rpg and have allowed 4.07 rpg in those games.

On Monday night they lost by a score of 4-1 and driving in their lone run was Austin Slater. They had just three total hits in the game and that just isn’t going to get it done. Taking the loss in the game was Dereck Rodriguez, who allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks in 6.1 innings of work. Hee is now 6-3 with a 2.35 ERA on the year. Can the Giants break their losing streak in this one? We shall see.
