Game Analysis
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to hang on to the NL West Lead, but by the slimmest of margins. They will enter this game win a one-game lead over the Rockies and a two-game lead over the Dodgers. They come in off a tough 2-0 loss in game one of this series ad they just couldn’t figure out Chris Stratton and company. The Diamondbacks had just five hits in the game and they wasted a good outing from Patrick Corbin. He allowed just two ERs on four hits in 7.0 innings of work to fall to 10-5 with a 3.15 ERA on the year. Arizona will look to get back on track tonight, but it won’t be easy as they are facing MadBum. Arizona is now just 1-3 in their last four games overall, but they are 37-28 on the road so far. That compares to a mediocre 35-31 at home. Arizona has averaged 4.38 rpg and has allowed 3.77 rpg on the road. Buchholz has been hot of late with a 1.17 ERA over his last three starts.
Can the Giants claw their way back into the race? They are currently seven games out of first in the National League West and 7.5 games out of a wildcard slot. The Giants took a step in the right direction in game one and a sweep of this series would allow them to get back in the race. That got a great outing from Chris Stratton in game one as he scattered just five hits over eight innings. He grabbed the win and is now 9-7 with a 4.99 ERA on the year. They will look to get another solid outing in this one and they could as Madison Bumgarner will take the hill. He has a 1.71 ERA at home and has allowed two ERs or less in his last five starts against the D-Backs. Still, Arizona has been a good road team this year and Clay Buchholz has been very strong for them of late. The Giants have gone 37-27 at home and have averaged 4.47 rpg and have allowed 4.25 rpg in those games.
