A Look At The Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox still have 12 games to go and they already have 103 wins on the year. The Sox are at 103-47 on the year and have won six of their last seven games as they are building momentum for the postseason. This could be a preview of the ALCS this year. The Sox stormed out to a 17-2 record at the start of the season and they haven’t slowed down since. They are the best team in baseball with the best offense and a pitching staff that is now complete again as they have Chris Sale back from the DL. the Sox also have on of the best pens in the league lead by Craig Kimbrel, who is 2nd in the league in saves with 41. They are a complete and deep team and are the favorites to win it all this year.

The Sox are off a three-game series at home against the Mets after losing game one, they bounced back to wins the final two. In the final, they won by a score of 4-3 and getting the start was Chris Sale. He went just three innings and allowed one hit. He now has a 1.92 ERA, which is 2nd in the league. Brandon Workman grabbed the win and is now 6-0 with a 2.33 ERA on the year, while Steven Wright picked up his 1st save. Brock Holt led the offense with his 5th homer of the year while driving in two runs. The Red Sox have gone 49-26 on the road and they have averaged 5.07 rpg and have allowed 3.89 rpg in those games.

A Look At The Yankees

The New York Yankees are 33 games over .500 and yet they are still 11.5 games behind the Red Sox for first place in the American League East. The Yankees are atop the wildcard standings, but they do lead the A’s by just a half a game for that spot. Still, this team will be in the postseason as they lead the Rays, who are in 3rd place, by eight games. This is an important series for the Yanks as they would like to keep their top spot in the wildcard standings, plus if they get past the wildcard game, then they would be facing the Red Sox and they would like to send a message that they can win it by playing well in this series.

The Yankees have not been playing well of late as they come in having lost four of their last five games. In their last series, they beat the Jay by a score of 11-0 in the opener, but then went on to lose the final two games. In the finale, they lost by a score of 3-2 as their vaunted offense failed to make an appearance. Andrew McCutchen accounted for one of their runs with his 19th homer of the year. Both runs were scored in the first inning. Lance Lynn allowed just one ER on three hits in 5.0 innings of work but got a no-decision. Dellin Betances took the loss and is now 4-6 with a 2.77 ERA on the year. The Yankees have gone 49-26 at home and they have averaged 5.57 rpg and have allowed 4.29 rpg in those games.
