Reigning Champs Overshadowed on NHL Betting Line

The defending champs will set out to defend their Stanley Cup title on the NHL betting line this Thursday as the Boston Bruins host the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference’s No. 2-No. 7 matchup. Is a repeat in the cards for the reigning title winners?

According to Bovada’s NHL odds, the Bruins have 17/2 odds of winning the Stanley Cup. Though it may be the fifth-best mark on the list, it trails behind a number of teams, some of whom stand relatively unproven compared to the 2012 champs.

Is Boston a safer bet than the St. Louis Blues at 8/1 or even the New York Rangers at 15/2? The Washington Capitals will certainly hope not. With 28/1 odds, the Caps are a long shot to win the Cup, but so long as they have Alex Ovechkin in uniform anything can happen.

Though it would be difficult to bet against a team as reliable as Boston, it’s hard not to think twice about a Washington team offering such an intriguing payout on the money line.

Regardless of how the series unfolds, the winner that comes from this first-round matchup has the potential to go deep in the Eastern Conference. Get all your NHL playoff odds today.
