A Look At The Giants

The San Francisco Giants are just about done. They come in having lost their last three games in a row to fall to 8.0 games out of first in the National League West and 8.5 games out of a wildcard spot. There just isn’t enough time for the cards to make up the ground needed to get in the playoffs. They took a very tough loss in game one of this series as they had an 8-7 lead heading to the bottom of the 8th when the Rockies scored twice in that inning to walk away with a 9-8 win. Those are losses that will sting, especially when they are watching the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes, instead of playing in them.

Madison Bumgarner really got lit up in the loss on Monday night. He allowed seven runs six earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.0 innings of work. It was clearly his worst start of the year, but at least he got a no-decision. Tony Watson blew his 4th save of the year and also took the loss. He is now 4-6 with a 2.91 ERA on the year. Evan Longoria led the attack with three RBIs, while Alan Hanson has a homer (7th) and drove in two runs. Gorkys Hernandez (14), and Christopher Shaw (1) also went deep for the Giants. San Francisco has gone 29-41 on the road and have averaged 3.53 rpg and have allowed 4.39 rpg in those games.

A Look At The Rockies

Here is something that many didn’t see coming this year. The Rockies are in first place in the National League West. It is far from over, though, as they lead the Dodgers by just a half a game and the Diamondbacks by a game and a half. Still, they have a very good shot at stealing the NL West. The Rockies come in having won three of their last four games and are no 9-5 on the year against the Giants after taking game one by a score of 9-8. The Rockies are still just 35-30 at home for the year, but 20-8 in their last 28 games here at Coors. They have averaged 5.12 rpg and have allowed 5.25 rpg in those games.

On Monday night, the Rockies had a 4-0 lead after the first and a 7-2 lead after five, but they still needed to rally in the bottom of the 8th to win it. Pinch-hitter Noel Cuevas had the big hit as he put them up for good with a two-run single in the 8th. Trevor Story had a huge game as he had two homers and drove in five runs. He now has 28 on the year. DJ LeMahieu also went deep in the game and now has 14 on the year. Tyler Anderson got the start and allowed three ERs on six hits and no walks while striking out seven in 5.0 innings of work. He got a no-decision while Seunghwan Oh grabbed the win and is now 6-3 with a 2.83 ERA on the year. Wade Davis picked up his 38th save, which is 2nd in the league.
