A Look At The Mariners

The Seattle Mariners were in the race for a playoff spot in the American League for much of the year, but they don’t really have a shot of getting one this year. The Mariners were just swept in two games at home to the Padres and they have now gone just 5-10 over their last 15 games. THat puts them at 12.5 games out of first in the American League East and 9.5 games out of a wildcard slot. They gave it a good run but will come up short this year. Their offense has been a problem as they have averaged just 2.75 rpg over their last eight games. Can they get it back in this series against a hot pitching staff? We shall see.

The Mariners fell in the finale against the Padres by a score of 5-4. They were down 5-0 at one point and score three in the 5th and one in the bottom of the 9th, but they came up just short. Leading their attack on offense was Mitch Haniger and Nelson Cruz, who each had two hits and an RBI. Cruz (35) and Kyle Seager (21) both went deep in the game. Wade Leblanc allowed five ERs (two earned) on four hits and a walk to take the loss. He is now 8-4 with a 3.56 ERA on the year. The Mariners have gone 38-33 on the road and have averaged 4.59 ERA and have allowed 4.80 rpg in those games.

A Look At The Angels

It has not been a great year for the Halos but thankfully for them, it is almost over. They have been playing very well of late as they have won 6 of their last seven games. The pitching has really led them of late as they enter with a 2.35 ERA over their last 10 games, including a 1.79 ERA from their pen over that stretch. They hope to keep it going in this series against a struggling offense. Despite their recent play, the Halos are still 19.0 games out of first in their division and 16.5 games out of a wildcard slot. They are just trying to build some confidence for next year.

They come in off a strong 8-1 win over the Rangers right here at home. Francisco Arcia led their attack in the game as he had three hits, scored two runs and drove in four. Two of his hits were homers and he now has five on the year. Jose Miguel Fernandez also went deep in the game and it was his 2nd of the year. Felix Pena had a very nice outing as he allowed no runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in 6.0 innings of work. He is now 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA on the year. The Angels have gone 37-35 here at Angel Stadium for the year and have averaged 4.36 rpg and have allowed 4.39 rpg in those games.
