Sports Betting Line Moves and Today’s Top Trends
By Doug Upstone
It’s on to Tuesday where this week the regular season wraps up in college basketball and several smaller conferences begin their conference tournaments. Also, the NBA and NHL head towards the last quarter of their regular season and we will review today’s biggest line moves. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
NBA – (511) NEW ORLEANS at (512) L.A. LAKERS 10:35 E FSNO, TW
The Lakers go after a third straight victory against a reeling New Orleans squad on a Debbie Downer, having lost eight straight (1-6-1 ATS) and trying to find any way to end their long road trip positively. Those betting basketball are betting against the Pelicans and taken this matchup from a Pick to the visitor as a two-point underdog. Los Angeles playing better is reflected in having more healthy bodies to use. L.A. might surrender the second-most points in the NBA at over 106 a game, but they are 9-0 ATS after allowing 55 points or more in the first half of two straight games this season. SWM Take – Lakers cover
CBB – (525) OHIO U. at (526) BOWLING GREEN 7:00 E
Despite a fairly large disparity in records, the line in this MAC matchup is close and even has a surprising switch. Ohio U. is 19-10 and opened as one-point road favorite at Bowling Green, who is 12-17 on the year. By mid-morning today, the Falcons had flown from underdogs to one-point faves. What those making basketball picks saw is a Bobcats team not playing their best basketball with a 3-5 and 2-6 ATS record in the past month. Bowling Green has also held the upperhand playing at the Stroh Center with an 11-4 (9-5-1 ATS) SU record. SWM Take – Slight lean with Bowling Green
CBB – (551) ARIZONA STATE at (552) OREGON 11:00 E FS1
The Ducks are back to where they started. After beginning the season 13-0, Oregon won twice in their next 10 outings (3-7 ATS) and looked an early season mirage. However, after starting to share the ball with greater regularity and paying more attention to detail, especially on defense, the Ducks have flown to five straight wins and are 6-1 ATS since losing by just two points at Tucson on Feb. 6. Besides the confidence this has given the Oregon players, sports bettors also have added confidence on the home team and elevated them from -6 to -7.5 against Arizona State. The Ducks are 12-3 ATS this season after a cover. SWM Take – Oregon covers
NHL – (13) N.Y. ISLANDERS at (14) WINNIPEG 8:05 E MSG+, TSN-W
On Jan. 12, Paul Maurice was named coach of Winnipeg and what a smart move that has turned out to be for the Jets. Since taking over, Maurice’s squad is 11-3-1 and they have moved up to ninth in the Western Conference, just two points behind Dallas for the last playoff position. The Jets improvement has come on the defensive end, where they concede nearly one less goal per game (2.2 vs. 3.1) and the combination of better defensive play and the improved goal-tending Ondrej Pavelec have mattered. Hockey bettors are lending their support to the Jets and jettisoned Winnipeg from -150 to over -170 on the money line against the Islanders. New York’s defense has been dreadful again and they are 3-13 after allowing three goals or more in four consecutive games this season. SWM Take – Winnipeg wins
