Sports Betting Line Moves and Today’s Top Trends

By Doug Upstone

We head into Thursday and dig into the line moves in the three major sports going tonight. As we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.

NBA – (501) BROOKLYN at (502) ATLANTA   3:05 E  NBA-TV

These Eastern Conference squads have a date in London today and those betting basketball are pumping up the total. The oddsmakers original release has been blown up from 191.5 to 194, which seems little peculiar with how both teams are trending. Brooklyn has begun to play the type of basketball most expected and are 5-2 UNDER since Dec. 31. Atlanta has suffered scoring issues and is 6-1 UNDER in their last seven outings. Maybe what to look towards is the Nets are 22-9 OVER having won three of their last four and Atlanta is 15-6 OVER after one or more  Over’s this season. SWM TakePlay Over

CBB – (531) UL-LAFAYETTE at (532) SOUTH ALABAMA  8:05 E

Louisiana has impressed this season with an 11-5 record (5-5 ATS) and they boast an outstanding offense, ranking first in the Sun Belt and tied for 12th nationally by pouring in 85.0 PPG on 47.6 percent from the field. South Alabama on the other hand is 6-11 (4-10 ATS) and converts on less than 40 percent of their shot attempts and is more defensive-oriented out of necessity, having lost six straight. Despite this, the Jaguars have gone from a one-point underdog to a one-point home favorite. South Alabama is a miserable 1-7 ATS after playing a game as an underdog this season, but ULL is 1-9 ATS in road games off a home win since last year. SWM TakeLean Louisiana

CBB – (537) UCLA at (538) COLORADO   8:00 E  PAC-12N

Count me among those surprised to see the line move on this Pac-12 matchup. With leading scorer and team leader Spencer Dinwiddie is gone with season-ending knee injury in Sunday’s 71-54 loss at Washington, somehow Colorado has been flipped from a two-point underdog to a two-point favorite. How important was Dinwiddie, besides scoring, the junior led his team in assists, steals, 3-pointers and free-throw percentage. Others will now have to step up and playing at home will help, where the Buffalos are 11-0 (6-4 ATS) and UCLA though very talented, is youthful.  Colorado is 17-7 ATS when the line is +3 to -3 the last three seasons, I just wonder if they adjust this quickly without their best player. SWM TakeLean UCLA

NHL – (3) DETROIT at (4) N.Y. RANGERS  7:05 E  FSD, MSG2

The Red Wings are one of the better road teams in the NHL at 14-10 SU and the Rangers are among the weaker home teams with a 10-14 SU mark at The Garden. Those wagering on hockey are ignoring these figures and going with current play instead and shifted the Blueshirts from -155 to -170 on the money line. New York is 6-3 of late while Detroit is 2-4. To the Rangers credit, they are 15-8 off a loss and the Red Wings are 1-7 after a road defeat. SWM TakeDetroit wins
