Sports Betting Line Moves and Top Trends
By Doug Upstone
We have a light card for Thursday, but it is all fine with the NFL back. Check out the line moves in college football and baseball also. Using line moves can be an important wagering tool to profit from and should be read accordingly.
NFL – (451) BALTIMORE at (452) DENVER 8:30 ET NBC
After consternation of the total demise of the Baltimore franchise with personnel losses, football bettors took a closer look at the defending Super Bowl champions this August and realized this was not the best team during the regular season last year anyways and reconsidered their position. Depending on the sportsbook, Baltimore opened at either +9 or +8.5 and has been dropped to +7.5. The loss of Von Miller figures to matter to Denver when it comes to bothering Joe Flacco. The Broncos were 10-3 ATS as a favorite last year including the playoffs, but one of the setbacks came against the Ravens, who are 8-2-1 ATS versus Denver. Update – Denver has continued to saunter lower, now down to -7 at most books, though 55 percent of the wagers are still on the Broncos. SWM Take – Lean with Baltimore
CFB – (301) FLORIDA ATLANTIC at (302) EAST CAROLINA 7:30 ET FS1
With the NFL starting today, Fox Sports 1 has made this a gamblers remote control TV telecast during commercials. Somewhat surprisingly (or maybe not) the wagering action has been on the total having moved from 54 to 56.5. As proven last week, we know East Carolina can score and be scored upon (52-38), while Florida Atlantic is thought to have a harder time scoring. When following the money in college football in this range with this type of movement, the UNDER is 15-5. SWM Take – Lean with the Under
MLB – (961) TAMPA BAY at (962) L.A. ANGELS 10:05 ET SUN, FSW
This line movement is about as surprising as Matt Leinart getting cut by Buffalo after a week. Tampa Bay is using David Price (8-6, 3.30 ERA) to start and this is just part of the story as to why the Rays have skyrocketed from -165 to -200. Price has won three straight starts over the Angles with a 0.39 ERA while tossing 16 scoreless innings the last two meetings. The lefthander is very comfortable at the Big A with a 3-0 record and a 1.33 ERA in his last three games in Anaheim, striking out 21 in 20 1/3 innings. Toss in the fact Tampa Bay is 15-3 versus the Halos in SoCal and they will face Jerome Williams (5-10, 4.68) and you should have a play. SWM Take – Tampa Bay wins
