The baseball grind continues and the Yankees and Royals are up 20 cents to significant favorites while Oakland has fallen like they were sitting in a tree more than 30 cents after their loss at Houston last night. Instead we have four other baseball line moves, which include an underdog switched to a favorite. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (60-47 L27D)
MLB – (903) WASHINGTON at (904) MIAMI 7:10 E MASN2, FSFL
If you had Washington like we did last night, we feel your pain, blowing a 6-0 lead starting in the seventh inning and finishing it off by allowing four in the ninth. The combo pack of such a defeat and the general ineffectiveness of Stephen Strasburg (7-8, 3.67 ERA) have caused trepidation. Baseball bettors have sent the Nationals south from -145 to under -135 and they are acutely aware of his 1-3 record with an 11.65 ERA in the last four starts at Miami. With Henderson Alvarez (7-5, 2.62) and his mates 12-4 vs. NL teams scoring 4.3 or less runs a game on the season, we will back the home team.SWM Take – Lean Miami
MLB – (913) PITTSBURGH at (914) SAN FRANCISCO 10:15 E ROOT-P, CSN-BA
Once against the Giants are slumping, having lost five straight and been outscored by a ginormous 24-5. Last night’s loss to Pittsburgh dropped San Francisco to 6-20 at home since June 6 and their offense has been stone cold in averaging 2.7 runs a contest. Little wonder why San Fran has fallen from -135 to under -120. Tim Hudson (8-7, 2.65) and the Giants won all seven his initial starts at AT&T Park, but collectively they have lost all three since. Francisco Liriano (2-7, 4.18) has been throwing better for Pittsburgh with a 2.43 ERA in past six outings, making this a hard choice.SWM Take – Slight lean with Pittsburgh
MLB – (921) TORONTO at (922) BOSTON 7:10 E SNET, NESN
With the trade deadline at hand, one of these AL East teams is a potential buyer and the other is a seller. No doubt this plays a part into those betting baseball shifting Toronto from +105 to -110 at Fenway Park. This is made easier by the fact the Blue Jays are 6-1 in last seven, scoring 7.1 RPG, while the Red Sox are the polar opposite at 1-6, averaging a measly 2-1 RPG. Melky Cabrera is 18 for 40 with three home runs and 13 RBI’s over his last 10 contests and is set to be a game-changer for John Gibbons crew. While Toronto makes all the sense in the world with a 12-3 record having won eight of 10 and Boston 1-8 at home revenging a loss where they scored one run or less, just keep in mind the Jays are a shocking 0-10 after allowing one run or less in a win over a division rival. Gulp.SWM Take – Lean Toronto
MLB – (929) MILWAIKEE at (930) TAMPA BAY 7:10 E FSWI, SUN
Not even sure what to say about the Rays at the juncture. After being 19 games below .500 on June 24, Tampa Bay is 22-6 since (+15.85 units) and is three more consecutive wins away from being .500. Tonight against first place Milwaukee, those following the betting odds love the home team (-130 to -160) and the fact they are facing a former teammate in Matt Garza (7-7, 3.87). The right-hander has been nothing special all year and he’ll take on Alex Cobb (6-6, 3.76), who along with David Price has led the Rays surge with a 4-0 record (3.07 ERA) in his last five starts. SWM Take – Tampa Bay wins
