We have a lot of action for Tuesday, with Pittsburgh a plummeting favorite with Andrew McCutcheon going on the DL, Washington losing almost 20 cents at home and both Colorado and the White Sox sinking favorites. While all those games are worth our attention, here are the four we will be focusing on. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (70-53 L31D)
MLB – (961) BALTIMORE at (962) TORONTO 7:05 E MASN, SNET-1
With Toronto having dropped three in a row at Houston after winning six straight and Baltimore the best road wager in baseball at +18.4 units (33-23 record), baseball bettors felt comfortable in moving the Orioles from +115 to -103. The O’s Nelson Cruz has really been slumping (7 for 70), but he is hitting .365 with five homers and 14 RBI’s in 14 battles with the Blue Jays. Bud Norris (8-7, 3.69 ERA) gets the call for Baltimore and he is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA in a trio of starts versus Toronto. Mark Buehrle (11-7, 3.11) got his first win since June 1 in his previous start and he is 11-2 if his team is off three or more consecutive losses since 2012. (Team’s Record) SWM Take – Lean Toronto
MLB – (965) TAMPA BAY at (966) OAKLAND 10:05 E SUN, CSN-CA
Since being traded to Oakland, to say Jason Hammel (8-9, 3.87 ) has not been comfortable in the A’s uniform is like saying Lindsey Lohan new autobiography will not be on the best sellers list. Hammel’s is 0-4 with an overstuffed 9.53 ERA and knows the problem. “There’s not much to explain,” Hammel said. “I’m a completely different pitcher. Just keep making the same mistakes over and over.” This is reason enough for baseball bettors to jettison the Athletics from -140 to -123 against Drew Smyly (6-9, 3.93) and Tampa Bay. However, the Rays are starting to cool with a recent 1-4 mark and the A’s are a sweet 22-12 against left-hand hurlers this season, with one victory coming against Smyly. SWM Take – Oakland wins
MLB – (967) HOUSTON at (968) PHILADELPHIA 7:05 E CSN-H, CSN-P
Houston hits the road brimming with confidence after finishing their homestand with series wins over Oakland and Toronto. As is the case with most teams, when you score, good things happen and the Astros are averaging 5.8 RPG in their last seven tries. This has caught the attention of those wagering on the diamond, moving Houston from +110 to -110 or higher. It also helps Dallas Keuchel (10-7, 2.97) is matched against Kyle Kendrick (5-11, 4.92), who has an 8.04 ERA in his last five starts. The Phillies are a disgusting 22-33 (-13.4 units) at home, nonetheless, the ‘Stros are 21-32 away (+0.2) and 1-9 against the NL East in 2014. SWM Take – Lean Houston
MLB – (969) CINCINNATI at (970) CLEVELAND 7:05 E FSOH, STO
The baseball battle of Ohio has been one-sided in recent years when played in the northern part of the state with Cleveland a perfect 6-0. In spite of what appears a clear-cut pitching edge for Cincinnati, the Indians have been flipped from +110 to -115 home favorites. Johnny Cueto (12-6, 2.05) faces the Tribe’s Josh Tomlin (5-7, 4.47), who is returning to start this contest after being demoted to Triple-A. Cueto is 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA in his last five outings and is 3-0 (2.10) against Cleveland. The Reds are a brutal 3-9 in interleague action, yet are 23-8 after Cueto allowed one or less earned runs in his last outing.SWM Take – Lean Cincinnati
